Archeiothiki: From Physical Archives to AI-Driven Information Management

How did Archeiothiki begin? What were the defining milestones across its twenty-year journey? And where is the company heading next?

In a recent interview in the Business Stories feature of Proto Thema (pages 14–15), President Periklis Argyros reflects on the company’s evolution, its current footprint, and its future ambitions.

From a simple observation to a strategic vision

“Twenty years ago, together with Andreas Papadakis, we started from a clear realization: in Greece there was — and to a large extent still is — a significant need for proper management of physical archives.

For decades, both private and public sector organizations operated almost entirely on paper. Information was fragmented, difficult to access, and often exposed to risk. We quickly understood that secure storage and structured access to information are not merely operational issues — they represent a strategic advantage.

From the very beginning, we saw physical archive management as the first step toward digitization. Very soon, we expanded into digitization and holistic information management.

For us, the key is not the document itself, but the information and the value it creates.”

Key milestones in a 20-year journey

Reflecting on the company’s path, Periklis Argyros highlights a series of defining moments:

  • 2007 – The first client to place their trust in the company was Kantor
  • 2008 – The first page was digitized
  • 2010 – First digital records management implementation at Ethniki Insurance
  • 2015 – First large-scale banking loan archive project
  • 2018 – Early entry into Artificial Intelligence, focusing on document intelligence
  • 2019 – Delivery of the first AI project — a landmark implementation
  • 2022 – EOS Capital enters the company’s share capital
  • 2023 – Launch of AI Flows, the company’s proprietary enterprise AI platform

“AI Flows is our own enterprise Intelligent Document Processing (IDP) platform and acts as a catalyst for the digital transformation services we deliver to our clients.”

A leading player in information management

Today, Archeiothiki provides end-to-end information management, covering the entire lifecycle:

From physical documents → to digital archives → to structured data ready to be integrated into business systems.

The company operates 40,000 sq.m. of modern facilities, with a digitization capacity exceeding 100 million pages annually, while serving more than 400 organizations across the private and public sectors.

With a team of over 550 professionals, including specialized engineers and data scientists, Archeiothiki has developed more than 100 AI models tailored for document processing, reinforcing its technological edge.

The opportunity beyond digitization

Significant progress has been made in Greece’s digital transition, creating a vast volume of digital data. However, much of this information remains underutilized.

“The real opportunity lies not only in digitization, but in extracting value from data — transforming information into knowledge and simplifying, or even eliminating, processes.

There is still a gap between having a document (often in PDF form) and fully leveraging the information it contains within business operations.”

Challenges and the role of AI

One of the main challenges has been building trust in Artificial Intelligence.

“In the early days, there was skepticism — many proofs of concept, but few real implementations. Today, we have demonstrated tangible value through production-scale projects.

For example, we process over 1,500 health insurance claims daily for a major insurance company, with high levels of accuracy and efficiency.”

At the same time, attracting and retaining top engineering talent remains a key challenge in an increasingly global market.

Growth trajectory and international expansion

Following strong growth in 2025, the company continues on an upward trajectory, with a clear strategic shift toward technology and AI-driven services.

“We are not ‘box movers’. We deliver end-to-end solutions. Our infrastructure is mature, scalable, and already operating at full capacity.

At the same time, we are actively expanding beyond Greece.”

Looking ahead: AI Flows and global ambition

“Our goal is for AI Flows to be recognized as the leading enterprise IDP platform in Greece and to establish a strong international presence. Expanding beyond Greece is a strategic priority.”

AI as a transformative force

Artificial Intelligence is already reshaping how organizations operate.

“Its adoption will accelerate, especially in information-intensive processes. It will bring greater speed, accuracy, and cost efficiency — but also a redefinition of roles.

AI is a powerful tool, but people must remain at the center of decision-making. Transparency, accountability, and data protection are essential.

AI Flows has been built with exactly this philosophy.”
